Murum Hydroelectric Project，located in Sarawak, Malaysia, is the second cascade hydropower station of the four cascade development in the upper reaches of Rajang River upstream. The station is about 70 kilometers downstream of Bakun Hydroelectric Project and is designed to accommodate four sets of 236MW Francis turbine generating units with total installed capacity of 944MW. This project mainly consists of the RCC gravity dam, the crest spillway on the dam, the waterway system (including the surge shaft), the powerhouse, power generation system of ecological flow and so on. This dam crest is 473m long, and maximum dam height is 141m The normal water level of the reservoir is 540m, the dead water level is 515m. The total reservoir volume is 12,043,000,000m3 and the regulated volume is 5,475,000,000m3. The total amount of the contract is 5.262 billion yuan, and Sinohydro Bureau 8 Co., Ltd. undertakes 3/5 of the total works under the contract. Project construction period lasts for sixty months. With the main purpose of power generation, Murum hydroelectric project is one of the important projects in Malaysia’s second energy plan.
Sinohydro Bureau 8 Co., Ltd. is responsible for the construction of the civil works, the manufacture and installation of metal structure and the installation of permanent M & E equipment.
In the afternoon of Oct 19th, 2008, the contract signing ceremony of Malaysia Murum Hydroelectric Project(EPC) was held at Three Gorges Project Hotel, Yicang City, Hubei province. Second Planning and Resource Management Minister Dato Sri Awang Tengah Ali Hassan.Tengah, who is also Public Utilities Minister, and China Three Gorges Project Corporation President Li Yong’an attended the ceremony. Sinohydro Bureau Co., Ltd. President Lin Xiujian and vice president . Huang Min also presented at the ceremony.
The EPC contract was signed between SEB chairman Datuk Abdul Hamed Sepawi, SEB managing director Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Hussain, Yangtze Three Gorges Technology and Economy Development Co. Ltd president Peng Qiyou and China Three Gorges Malaysia Sdn. Bhd general manager Zhao Jianqiang.
